Ingredients

Scale

Banana Bread Batter

  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Cinnamon Swirl

  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan thoroughly to prevent sticking and set it aside.
  2. Mix wet ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the mashed bananas, melted butter, granulated sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract. Stir well until all the ingredients are fully blended.
  3. Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt to ensure even distribution of leavening agents and salt.
  4. Incorporate dry into wet: Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet banana mixture, stirring gently just until the flour disappears. Avoid overmixing to keep the bread tender.
  5. Prepare cinnamon swirl: In a small bowl, mix the ground cinnamon and brown sugar thoroughly to create the cinnamon swirl mixture.
  6. Layer batter and cinnamon: Pour half of the banana bread batter into the prepared loaf pan. Evenly sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the batter. Pour the remaining batter on top, followed by the rest of the cinnamon sugar.
  7. Create the swirl: Using a knife or skewer, gently swirl the cinnamon sugar through the batter in a marbling pattern for beautiful layers and flavor distribution.
  8. Bake the bread: Place the loaf pan in the oven and bake for 60 to 70 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center—it should come out clean. If the bread browns too fast, tent it with foil to prevent burning.
  9. Cool and serve: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing to maintain structure and flavor.

Notes

  • Ensure bananas are very ripe for the best natural sweetness and moisture.
  • Do not overmix the batter to keep the bread light and tender.
  • You can add chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans for extra texture.
  • Store leftover banana bread wrapped tightly at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to a week.
  • The cinnamon swirl mixture can be increased if a stronger cinnamon flavor is desired.
  • Use a metal or glass loaf pan to ensure even baking.
