Ingredients

Scale

For the Roll Ups

  • 8 oz Smoked Salmon (use smoked salmon instead of lox for best taste)
  • 4 oz Whipped Cream Cheese (dairy-free cream cheese can be used)
  • 1 stalk Green Onion (use only the green parts, thinly sliced)
  • 1 teaspoon Lemon Zest
  • 1 medium Persian Cucumber (cut into thin strips)
  • 1 medium Avocado (sliced thinly)
  • 1 tablespoon Everything But The Bagel Seasoning (use sparingly)

For the Dipping Sauce

  • Citrus Soy Sauce (optional) – combine soy sauce, lemon juice, water, mirin, and green onions

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cream Cheese Mixture: In a bowl, combine the whipped cream cheese, thinly sliced green onion greens, and lemon zest. Stir thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Set aside.
  2. Arrange Salmon: Lay out a sheet of plastic wrap on a clean, flat surface and lightly sprinkle it with Everything But The Bagel seasoning. Arrange overlapping slices of smoked salmon on top of the wrap in a rectangular shape.
  3. Spread Filling: Evenly spread the prepared cream cheese mixture over the salmon layer, making sure to cover the entire surface evenly.
  4. Add Vegetables: Place thin strips of Persian cucumber and thin slices of avocado in a line along the center of the salmon and cream cheese layer.
  5. Roll the Salmon: Using the plastic wrap as a guide, carefully roll the salmon tightly from one edge to the other, encasing the filling and creating a tight roll. Seal the plastic wrap around the roll.
  6. Chill the Roll: Place the wrapped roll in the freezer for 5 to 10 minutes. This helps firm up the roll, making it easier to slice without losing its shape.
  7. Slice and Serve: Remove the roll from the freezer, unwrap the plastic wrap, and slice the roll into bite-sized pieces. Serve the roll ups with the optional citrus soy sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Use smoked salmon rather than lox for a better balanced flavor and texture.
  • Dairy-free cream cheese can be substituted to make this recipe suitable for lactose intolerant diners.
  • Adjust the amount of Everything But The Bagel seasoning to taste; it can be strong if used excessively.
  • Chilling the roll before slicing is essential to maintain clean, even pieces.
  • The citrus soy dipping sauce is optional but adds a nice tangy contrast to the rich roll ups.
