Main Ingredients
- 2 tsp Tastefully Simple™ Avocado Oil
- 1 large yellow onion, sliced
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 2 tsp garlic, minced
- 1 tsp Tastefully Simple™ Onion Onion Seasoning
- ½ tsp Tastefully Simple™ Seasoned Pepper
- 1 cup white long grain rice, uncooked
- 2 cups beef stock
- ¾ cup Tastefully Simple™ French Onion Skillet Sauce
- 1 cup frozen peas and carrots
- 1 cup Gruyére cheese, shredded
- Caramelize Onions: Heat avocado oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and caramelized, about 20 minutes. If onions begin to burn, lower heat and add a bit more oil.
- Cook Ground Beef: Transfer caramelized onions to a plate. In the same skillet, add ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until fully browned and crumbled. Drain excess fat.
- Add Seasonings: Return skillet to heat. Stir in minced garlic, onion seasoning, and seasoned pepper. Cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Combine Ingredients and Cook Rice: Add uncooked rice, beef stock, French Onion Skillet Sauce, frozen peas and carrots, and caramelized onions into skillet. Stir well and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18 to 20 minutes until rice is tender.
- Finish with Cheese: Fluff the beef and rice mixture with a spoon. Stir in shredded Gruyére cheese until melted and evenly combined. Serve hot.
Notes
- When caramelizing onions, patience is key. Cooking slowly ensures the best flavor and color.
- Draining excess fat from cooked beef reduces grease, making the dish less heavy.
- You can substitute Gruyére with Swiss or Mozzarella cheese if unavailable.
- This recipe can be customized with other vegetables like mushrooms or bell peppers.
- Use low sodium beef stock if you want to control salt levels.
